Italian Cultural Institute

The second of a series of three lectures, given by art historian Giovanni Aloi, culminating in a guided tour of the Italian works of the Art Institute of Chicago. This series of talks maps the fundamental themes and landmark moments of the influential history of Italian landscape painting, from medieval to contemporary art.

This lecture looks at the idealization of pastoral life considering the spiritual, historical, economic, and environmental factors that have modeled the representation of landscape in Italian art.
